Improving water use in irrigation depends not only on the application of adequate irrigation supplies and irrigation duration, but also on the performance of the irrigation systems installed, mainly the uniformity of distribution and the effective capacity to control the quantities of water applied. This course was prepared with the aim of providing the knowledge that will allow the increase in the efficiency of localized irrigation systems, installed in vegetable fields, orchards, and gardens, aiming at reducing water consumption, as well as increasing environmental benefits, particularly in terms of improving the efficiency of fertilizer application.
Goals
The main objective of this course is to provide participants with the necessary knowledge about concepts related to the maintenance and evaluation of irrigation systems, so that they are able to apply this knowledge in everyday practice. The course is designed to provide knowledge that will allow for the increase in the efficiency of water application of irrigation systems, installed in horticultural crops, orchards, and gardens, and thus reduce water waste. Additionally, properly maintained irrigation systems allow for the standardization of production in the case of agricultural systems and maintain the aesthetic value in the case of systems installed in gardens and landscapes.
At the end of this course, trainees should have acquired knowledge, skills and competencies in:
a) knowledge of the typical structure of a localized irrigation system
b) knowledge about the different types of filters and how to perform their maintenance
c) operational mastery of pressure and flow measurement
d) operational expertise in assessing the performance of the irrigation system, in particular the uniformity of water distribution and the effective capacity to control the water allocations applied, and
e) operational mastery in the maintenance of irrigation systems
Recipients
Farmers, agricultural and garden irrigation technicians and operators, and polytechnic and university students
