Soils are a fundamental component of ecosystems, interfering in all biogeochemical cycles and consequently in the activities that take place there, such as agriculture, forestry, gardens, industrial activities, etc. These activities depend on the quality and health of the existing soil, as well as being recipients of its impacts.

To understand these relationships between the soil and the different components of the system (plants, animals, activities, water, etc.) and in different fields of study or disciplines, from environmental risk assessment studies to the quality of an agricultural or forestry crop, among others, it is essential to have an appropriate sampling strategy, identifying not only the sampling typology, but also the most appropriate number of samples, the way in which they are obtained and considerations in their collection.

The proposed training course addresses these sampling designs, providing professionals with the tools and criteria to adequately evaluate and plan soil sampling in accordance with the purpose of their studies or projects.

Goals

Provide knowledge and understanding of different soil sampling techniques and considerations when collecting samples as part of the planning of different studies or projects.

  • Contents

The training course is structured around theoretical and theoretical-practical classes lasting 3 hours, which cover the sampling strategy according to the purpose of the studies (agricultural, forestry, contamination, environmental assessment, etc.) and relevant aspects such as the number of samples, location, sampling depths, and basic information on the description of the most important soil characteristics. In addition, a practical class is held on the second day of the course, lasting 3 hours, in the different areas of ISA, putting into practice the knowledge acquired through the resolution of different practical cases.

Recipients

Professionals and technicians from public administration and consulting companies, students and researchers in the areas of agriculture, forestry and landscape architecture interested in expanding their knowledge in the area of soils and incorporating this component into their professional fields.

Requirements

- Open to all interested parties, no prior knowledge is necessary.

- Carrying out a field class, suggesting the use of appropriate clothing and footwear.

- Offered in Portuguese, but some sources of information and recommended bibliography may be in English.
