Irrigation in agriculture accounts for 75% of water use, and its proper management is essential. The increasing scarcity of water, due to the impacts of climate change and the increase in the irrigated area, has been driving the adoption of irrigation strategies appropriate to each crop-soil-climate combination, aiming to reduce water consumption, which requires high precision in estimating irrigation needs, as well as correct dimensioning and maintenance of irrigation systems. The increasing digitalization of irrigation and the adoption of new forms of management (e.g. precision irrigation) require the use of software and sensors to support irrigation management and control, thus making it necessary for users to acquire new skills.
Goals
The objective of this course is to provide the necessary knowledge on concepts related to irrigation management and management and the sizing of irrigation systems. This training aims to strike a balance between the consolidation of concepts in the area of irrigation and the learning of new methods and technologies, including those for measuring water flows in plants and soil and diagnosing water stress, interpretation of multispectral images, including thermal images, as well as the acquisition of knowledge in the use of software to estimate crop irrigation needs and for the design of irrigation systems.
Recipients
Agricultural irrigation technicians and operators, designers, polytechnic and university students.
