The transition to a carbon neutral society has been one of the central objectives worldwide, reflected in Portugal in strategic planning instruments, such as the Roadmap for Carbon Neutrality 2050, which provides for the promotion of carbon sequestration through forest management active, promoting the valorization of the territory, the PNEC 2030 and the Climate Base Law, which establishes objectives that must be pursued with a view to combating climate change and achieving an ecological balance. This transition requires actions to increase sequestration capacity, in order to enable the achievement of the objective of limiting the increase in the global average temperature to 1.5o C, established in the Paris Agreement, in line with the results of the latest reports from the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change. Therefore, investing in natural-based solutions for carbon sequestration is crucial to achieving carbon neutrality, also contributing to the protection of biodiversity, regulation of natural cycles, landscape design and adaptation to climate change by increasing the resilience of the territory . To adopt methods for calculating sequestration at forest level, it is important to acquire knowledge about models adjusted to national forest species.
